Aggregate and Resource Extraction (i.e. Gravel Pits)
Since the adoption of the County’s current MDP, the resource extraction industry has significantly changed due to new technologies, market demands and provincial regulations. A large number of development enquiries received by planning staff relate to resource extraction. Based on experience, resource extraction developments can be highly controversial mainly due to potential impacts on the environment, public opposition, hauling routes, reclamation requirements and duration of the business operation.
