Water & Ice Rescue

Water & Ice Rescue

Rocky Search and Rescue (SAR) has a dedicated team of Ice Rescue Technicians (IRT) specially trained to handle emergencies on frozen bodies of water, such as lakes, ponds, and rivers. This training teaches participants to identify ice hazards and perform rescues in icy conditions. Emphasizing safety, the course focuses on self-rescue techniques and the use of specialized equipment, as well as medical care for individuals exposed to cold water.

Swiftwater & Flood Rescue

Our Swiftwater Rescue team is equipped with essential skills and certifications, including Swiftwater Rescue Technician training and Technical Rope Rescue Technician training, in compliance with NFPA 1670 standards. Several team members are also certified as boat operators or rescue boat crew.

Rocky SAR responds to swiftwater rescues and searches along rivers like the North Saskatchewan, Clearwater, Upper Red Deer, Ram, Siffleur, and Bighorn Rivers. We also provide safety support for events such as canoe races.

In collaboration with Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services, we maintain a Joint Water Team. For a glimpse of our training, check out the photos below:
