Ryan Smith Recreation Area

The Ryan Smith Recreation Area is a vibrant new 8-acre recreation space located just south of the Leslieville Public Services Building and Fire Training Area, designed to bring the community together through sports and outdoor fun! The recreation area features a soccer pitch, baseball diamond with dugouts and bleachers, a playground, greenspace, a paved walking trail, and on-site vault toilet facilities.

Individual bookings are still accepted during the regular season (May 1 to July 31) they will be treated as incidental bookings and may be scheduled on a random or recurring basis, subject to availability. Bookings outside of the regular season will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

User groups interested in booking the ball diamonds at the Ryan Smith Recreation Area for the regular season (May 1 to July 31) are invited to submit an application for consideration.

Can the public use the ball diamond without a booking?
Yes. If the diamond is not reserved, it is available for casual public use. Use of the ball diamonds is at your own risk.

Do I need to fill out an application just to play catch or hit a few balls?
No. An application is not required for casual, non-organized play when the diamond is not reserved.

How do I know if the diamond is already booked/reserved?
Check the online schedule or scan the QR code posted at the field (coming soon) to view the booking calendar.

When do I need to book the diamond?
A booking is required for organized activities such as league play, regular season games, tournaments, or events.

How do I book the diamond?
Complete the online booking form and submit your requested date and time.

  • Regular season booking (May 1 – July 31) will be accepted February 16 to March 16. 
  • Following submission, applicants will be notified regarding availability, booking confirmation, and any contract requirements. 
  • Individual bookings requested during the regular season are treated as incidental bookings and may be scheduled on a random or recurring basis, subject to availability.
  • Bookings outside of the regular season are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I need to purchase insurance for casual play?
No. Insurance is not required for informal public use, such as families or individuals casually playing when the diamond is not reserved. Use of the ball diamonds is at your own risk. However, organized groups, leagues, tournaments, or events may be required to provide proof of liability insurance as part of the booking process.

What happens if the field is booked but someone is already using it when I arrive?
The individual or group with the confirmed booking has priority use of the diamond during their reserved time. A confirmed booking guarantees access for that time slot. The online booking calendar can be referenced to confirm reservations.
