Clearwater County has lifted the fire ban/OHV restriction as of May 26, 2023, and is now under a FIRE RESTRICTION. Due to the continued dry, windy conditions and warm temperatures, Clearwater County continues to experience wildfire activity in the northern border area of the municipality. Alberta Wildfire Dashboard indicates that the largest fire in the County, RWF034 (NW of O’Chiese First Nation), continues to be classified as out of control at over 87,000 hectares. Heavy smoke is in the area at times. Rocky Fire Centre office reports that firefighting crews, support staff, heavy equipment and helicopters continue to work on holding the wildfire. RWF034 is one of many large fires north of Clearwater County and combined they are referred to now as the Pembina Fire Complex (EWF031/039, RWF034/040). Please avoid forested areas in the vicinity of any wildfires. Travelling into forested areas where a wildfire has burned can be risky, as burnt trees have compromised roots and may fall onto roads or trails. Currently, there are no evacuation orders in Clearwater County, however, industry and recreational users in the northern portion of Clearwater County are asked to use caution if travelling south of Fire RWF034 west from Sunchild Road all the way west to the Forestry Trunk Road (Hwy 734) and the area south to Hwy 11.
